MARKET INSIGHTS FOR THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
commercetools State of eCommerce Report
Overview
The State of eCommerce report captures the pulse on replatforming and migration trends among retail, B2B manufacturing, and consumer packaged goods (CPG) organizations. Respondents represented in this report were business and technology leaders involved in eCommerce platform purchasing decisions at organizations that made at least $500 million in total annual revenue, with at least 10% of that revenue coming directly from eCommerce sales.
Key findings
The leading metric to measure the success of a new eCommerce platform was its ability to enable an organization to compete.
90% of recent migrators experienced sales and revenue improvements, with 30% of respondents reporting that their sales increased by 30% or more, and 42% of respondents reporting revenue growth of 10% or more.
92% of recent migrators said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their migration to a new eCommerce platform.
83% of respondents had a favorable perception of composable commerce.
The number one buying trigger for recent eCommerce migrations was the need to create better user experiences.
The top challenge cited by recent migrators was the complexity of integrating new technology into existing systems.

Data collection and analysis: I oversaw the development of the survey questionnaire and interview discussion guide and fused the quantitative and qualitative insights into a cohesive, engaging thought leadership white paper.
Content creation: Leveraging the research findings, workshops with commercetools’ leadership, and close collaboration with their marketing, design, and PR teams, I drafted the white paper and accompanying data visualizations, as well as managed the editing cycles with stakeholders to ensure we hit an aggressive publishing deadline.
